. . . University & Careers Advice - Applying to Uni
The most important to thing to do before you fill in the form is find out more about your preferred universities, colleges and courses. Read their prospectuses, visit a UCAS Education Convention, speak to your careers adviser and, if possible, go to university and college open days. And don't forget to talk to your family and friends, particularly those who have been to your chosen universities or colleges.

You should be happy with your choice of course and university or college before you make your final decision. Remember, you will be spending the next few years there.

When you're applying remember is that to give yourself the best chance of being accepted you should apply as early as possible. But if you're like the majority of the world you'll probably tend to leave everything to the last minute. So, here's a reminder of those all important deadlines.

If you are applying from the UK or European Union (EU), whatever your nationality, you must your application form between 1 September 2002 and 15 January 2003, except in the following circumstances:

If you are applying for courses at Oxford University or Cambridge University, or for courses in medicine (UCAS codes A100, A101, A103, A104 or A106), dentistry (course codes A200, A203, A204, A205 or A206) or veterinary medicine or veterinary science (course codes D100 or D101). You must apply by 15 October 2002.

For art and design Route B courses, you must apply between 1 January 2003 and 24 March 2003.

Universities and colleges will guarantee to consider your application if UCAS receive your form by the appropriate deadline. If you send in your form after the deadline date but before 30 June 2003, they may consider it but they do not have to.

If UCAS receive your application form on or after 1 July 2003, UCAS will send you details of Clearing, but will not send your application to universities and colleges at this stage, and you will have to contact them directly.

If you are a non-EU student, you should also allow enough time to make any immigration, travel and accommodation arrangements, which can take longer during the summer when immigration departments are busy.

If you think you may be assessed as a 'home' student (UK or EU) for tuition fees, you should apply by 15 January 2003.

If you are applying from outside the EU for one course only and you already have the necessary qualifications, you can apply at any time. Please contact UCAS or your chosen college or university for advice.

Remember: You can only submit one UCAS application form in each year's application cycle.
