Bournemouth University Business School
Innovative & International Approach
Known for it's innovative approach to learning and high graduate employment figures, the Business School at Bournemouth has gained an excellent reputation both regionally and internationally as a provider of full and part time business programmes, training, research and consultancy.
Internationally the Business School has a long history of welcoming students from outside the UK to its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It offers English language and skills preparation and student support throughout the programmes.
High Graduate Employment Record
Bournemouth University Business School is known by employers and students to have excellent graduate employment rates, always well above the national average. In 2002 The Financial Times rated Bournemouth University as second in the country for graduate employment. Business School graduates are highly sought after and are often offered jobs at the placement companies they work for in Year 3. After graduating, students find work very quickly, helped by the University's active careers service and on-campus recruitment agency - the Work Bank.
Contact with Industry
As the Business School programmes are deliberately modern, dynamic and up to date students acquire a wide range of interpersonal skills that assist them when looking for work. Known for their presentation skills and ability to identify and research business solutions, groups of students have regularly been put forward for national undergraduate competitions beating other universities in key areas eg. The Price Waterhouse Coopers University's Business Challenge.
Students also have contact with industry throughout their studies. All students do Business Simulation weeks where they work in groups to develop business plans and case studies which are assessed and marked by industry professionals. The majority of staff have worked in industry and are committed to keeping the programmes up to date and relevant to modern business. The School has also received grants for its work on global responsibility and sustainable business practice.
'Excellent' Teaching Quality
In a recent subject review by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education, the business and management provision was awarded an 'excellent' 22/24, October 2001. The School is well ahead of many others in its teaching methods, providing an on-line learning facility which allows students access to lecture and seminar notes off campus, a means of communicating between fellow students and lecturers and access to library resources.
Up to Date Resources
Students can use the Business School PC labs while on campus and also have access to the most recent on-line databases and journals as well as up to date text books in the newly built library centre.
The Business School also has a well resourced Language Centre that allows Business Studies students to take up language options as part of their course or study languages in their own time.
