Funds

Funds are the last port of call when you really have so little left that even the moths in your wallet have migrated and you need something to tide you over.

The only trouble is that they aren't mandatory, you have to apply for them and the assessors make sure that you can't get money any other way before they are given out.

Having said that, institutions can be surprisingly empathetic towards students with a good enough case. So, stand up straight in the witness box and brace yourself for the cross-examination.
